The Veterinary Treatment Facility (VTF) is professionally staffed by the US Army Veterinary Corps and civilian NAF personnel. It is in Building 3664, 2460 Ladd Street. For questions or appointments, call 671-3631. For general information, call 671-3354.
The primary mission of the Veterinary Treatment Facility is to provide preventative medicine (heartworm preventative, flea control, vaccinations, etc.) as well as the prevention and treatment of zoonotic diseases. (Zoonotic diseases are those which are transmitted from animal to man.)
Lackland's stray animal policy is covered in LAFB Instruction 31-201, 11.1-3 which states: "When a domestic animal is found outside and not under direct control of the owner, it is transported to the stray animal facility. Security Foreces will attempt to contact the owner, if the animal has identification, by contacting the LAFB-VTF (Veterinary Treatrment Facility). When the animal is placed in the stray facility, the San Antonio Animal Control will be contacted. The animal will be picked up and transported to SAAC within 72 hours."
